We keep this simple: your data is yours. We collect the minimum needed to run Back Channel, and we always tell you why.
1. What We Collect
- Account Info: Just your email, username, and optional profile picture
- Content: What you post or interact with in the app
- Device Info: Your device ID, language, and app version
- Location: Only if you turn it on. Off by default.
- Usage Data: What features you use, nothing more
2. What We Don't Collect
- No biometric data
- No contact lists
- No drafts, private notes, or unposted content
- No sensitive categories like race, religion, or health – unless you explicitly include them in a post
3. How We Use Your Data
- To deliver the app and its features to you
- To fight spam and bots (with automated tools + human review)
- To give you control of what you see (you can reset your feed)
- To notify you of important updates (opt-in marketing only)
4. Sharing & Selling
- We never sell your data.
- We only share with essential service providers (hosting, moderation, analytics)
- You can see a list of those providers at any time
5. Your Controls
- Export your data with one tap
- Delete your account and everything tied to it – including files and backups – within 30 days
- Choose what notifications and emails you get, separately for marketing vs. service alerts
6. Children's Privacy
Back Channel is for users 13+. We verify age and block underage accounts. If one slips through, we delete it quickly. We never knowingly collect data from kids.
7. Retention & Deletion
- We delete inactive data after 12 months
- You can request early deletion at any time
- We keep only what's legally required for taxes, safety, or abuse prevention
8. Changes
If we ever change this policy, you'll know. We'll show you what's different in the app, explain it in plain English, and get your confirmation if it matters.
